One of the objectives of the LIFE project is to extend the habitat areas favourable to the Crau Plain grasshopper, in particular through management and restoration. The support of the Fondation du Patrimoine will help restore
Awarded in November 2024 under the Natural Heritage and Biodiversity programme initiated by the Fondation du Patrimoine, the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels de Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur has obtained funding of 20,000 euros for a coussoul restoration project.
Several partners are involved in this restoration project: the Chambre d’Agriculture des Bouches-du-Rhône to support the interventions and guarantee the link with the shepherds and breeders; the Institut Méditerranéen de Biodiversité et d’Écologie Marine et Continentale and the Maison de la Télédétection (INRAE) to assess the impact of the scrub clearance and removal of restoration on the natural habitat.
All the scrub clearance and uprooting work planned as part of this restoration project will be carried out at the end of winter, in order to precede the grazing season and the wildlife breeding season and limit disruption.
This restoration project includes several awareness-raising and educational activities relating to habitat restoration. Visits to the restored sites can be included in the nature field trips organised regularly by the Conservatoire team.
