Endemic to the steppe grasslands of the Plaine de Crau (Bouches-du-Rhône), the Crau Plain Grasshopper Prionotropis rhodanica experienced a spectacular decline in the 20th century. Today, there are only three known sub-populations left. For this reason, the species is classified as “critically endangered” on the red lists. A conservation strategy was developed in 2014 in cooperation with the IUCN. In 2021, the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels de Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and its partners have submitted a LIFE project which has been approved by the European Commission. We will present the key figures, objectives and actions of the project.
